What types of treatment do you offer?
At Davis Dermatology we offer two skin tightening treatments Exilis Ultra and VirtueRF.
How does it work?
Exilis Ultra uses radiofrequency to heat the skin to the temperature clinically proven to stimulate new collagen. This newly stimulated collagen is seen clinically as tighter skin with an improved texture
VirtueRF combines radiofrequency with microneedling and red light. Microneedles create micro-channels in the skin which promotes collagen production while radiofrequency heats the skin to enhance the production of collagen. Finally, red light is emitted to increase microvasculature and stimulate even more collagen.
Am I a good candidate?
Most patients would benefit from Exilis or Virtue RF treatments, as long as there is no pacemaker or metal near the treated area. Tooth fillings are ok. They are not recommended in patients who are pregnant or nursing.
The ideal candidate for these treatments are patients whose treatment goals do not require surgery. As a general rule, when a patient uses their hands to pull the skin back to demonstrate a desired result, then surgery is usually required.
How much does it cost?
Exilis ranges from $250-$800 per treatment
VirtueRF ranges from $350 – $1,000+ per treatment
What areas can be treated?
Exilis and VirtueRF can be used to treat the face including around the eyes, face, neck, decolletage, arms, legs, and abdomen.
Does it hurt?
Exilis is very comfortable and feels like a hot stone massage. VirtueRF uses microneedles and may cause mild discomfort.
What is the downtime?
There is no downtime.
How many treatments will I need?
6 treatments are recommended, performed at weekly intervals for Exilis and monthly intervals for Virtue RF
When will I see results?
While there is noticeable improvement after each treatment from heating the skin, final results are usually seen approximately 3 months after the last treatment as it takes time for new collagen formation.
How long do results last?
Maintenance treatments are recommended every 3-6 months depending on the condition of the skin, treatment goals, and whether or not anti-aging products are used regularly.
Are there any side effects?
Patients may experience mild pinkness of the skin immediately after treatment but may return to normal activity immediately.

What to Expect

BEFORE
Patients should arrive to their appointments well hydrated with clean, dry, skin. No lotions, skincare products, or sunscreen on the treatment area. Starting over-the-counter collagen peptides is recommended.

DURING
During an Exilis treatment, the patient will experience a warm sensation like a hot stone massage. During a VirtueRF treatment patients will either arrive pre-numbed or numbed in-office with topical numbing cream. Patients may experience mild discomfort from the microneedles and heat from the radiofrequency.

AFTER
The treated area may be slightly pink for several minutes immediately after the treatment but will return to normal after a few minutes. Normal activity may be resumed immediately.

A Closer Look at the Treatments
Radiofrequency (EXILIS ULTRA)
Exilis Ultra combines radiofrequency and ultrasound to effectively and comfortably heat the skin to the optimal temperature that stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin. Ultrasound enhances the treatment area and depth of penetration, ensuring maximum results. The combined technology offered by Exilis Ultra provides improved delivery of energy and produces better results than those seen with radiofrequency alone.
As a side note, patients often ask about over-the-counter radiofrequency devices seen on social media and readily available. Most of these devices are bipolar devices that do not penetrate as deeply as monopolar devices. They are also unlikely to emit enough energy for true collagen stimulation as studies show that collagen stimulation occurs when the tissue is heated to 42-44°C or 107.6-111.7°F. While over-the-counter devices are not as effective as medical-grade devices, they may offer very short-term results that patients may find appealing.
MicroneedlingRF (VIRTUE RF)
Our VirtueRF Platform is the only microneedling RF platform available. It combines three great treatments into one amazing treatment: 36-gold tipped microneedles, radiofrequency, and red or blue light. It has three unique handpieces: SMART RF, DEEP RF, and EXACT RF. These handpieces are the most advanced microneedling RF devices available. They allow for customized settings that can deliver stronger, more effective treatments than the Vivace and other microneedling devices for optimal collagen stimulation. The SMART RF is indicated for most areas including the face, neck, eyes, chest, and hands. For more tightening, we recommend the DEEP RF indicated for the neck and body.
Patients tolerate the procedure well after topical numbing. Mild settings have no downtime, while more aggressive settings may have 1-2 weeks of visible dots. More aggressive treatments with DeepRF and ExactRF may result in longer recovery periods.
For more enhanced results, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can be applied to the neck after microneedling RF. PRP is isolated from the patient’s blood, from a blood sample taken at the time of treatment. The PRP contains growth factors that allow the skin to respond to the treatment faster and better.
