Collagen Stimulation

Collagen is a protein in our skin that helps keep it firm and youthful. As we age, our skin naturally produces less collagen leading to wrinkles and sagging. At Davis Dermatology we offer several treatments that stimulate collagen to help you age slower and maintain healthy youthful skin.

Our VirtueRF Platform is the only microneedling RF platform available. It combines three great treatments into one amazing treatment: 36-gold tipped microneedles, radiofrequency, and red or blue light. It has three unique handpieces: SMART RF,  DEEP RF, and EXACT RF. These handpieces are the most advanced microneedling RF devices available. They allow for customized settings that can deliver stronger, more effective treatments than the Vivace and other microneedling devices for optimal collagen stimulation. The SMART RF is indicated for most areas including the face, neck, eyes, chest, and hands. For more tightening, we recommend the DEEP RF indicated for the neck and body. Finally, for eye wrinkles, eyebags,  horizontal necklines, radial lip lines, and some acne scars, we recommend the EXACT RF which allows for very precise collagen stimulation.

Patients tolerate the procedure well after topical numbing. Mild settings have no downtime, while more aggressive settings may have 1-2 weeks of visible dots.

For more enhanced results, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can be applied after microneedling RF. PRP is isolated from the patient’s blood, from a blood sample taken at the time of treatment. The PRP contains growth factors that allow the skin to respond to the microneedling treatment faster and better.

Our non-ablative laser treatments keep the top layer of skin intact and target their energy just below the surface. Non-ablative lasers are great for stimulating collagen for anti-aging. They are also effective at treating pigment, melasma, stretch marks, and other scars. In comparison to ablative lasers, non-ablative lasers offer less downtime, fewer side effects, less risk, improved tolerability, and are safer for a wider range of skin types. Most patients can resume their normal activities shortly after the treatment, but we still encourage sun avoidance and sun protection for two after your treatment.

We offer two types of ablative laser treatments: fractionated and fully ablative. 

Fractionated laser resurfacing (HALO, COOLPEEL) treats a portion of the skin while leaving some surrounding areas intact for faster healing. Fractionated laser treatments are great for mild to moderate fine lines, texture irregularities, and sun damage. The depth of tissue removal is shallower compared to fully ablative lasers allowing for a faster recovery, usually 1 week or less. 

Fully ablative laser resurfacing is the most aggressive laser treatment performed in our office. We utilize an erbium laser to remove the entire outer layer (epidermis) and part of the underlying layer (dermis). This is a very effective treatment for deep wrinkles and pigment. Results are dramatic.  Nerve blocks are utilized and recovery is 2 weeks.

If patients are looking for tightening, but are not comfortable with microneedling, we have a more comfortable option called Exilis Ultra. Exilis Ultra utilizes two energies, radiofrequency and ultrasound to comfortably heat the skin to the clinically proven temperature that stimulates collagen. This treatment is very tolerable and has been compared to a hot stone massage. There is no downtime and patients can return to normal activities immediately after treatment. 6 treatments are recommended at 1-2 week intervals.

Red Light Therapy, or low-level red light therapy (LLLT) is a non-invasive anti-aging treatment that involves exposing the skin to red light. Red Light Therapy activates a series of cellular processes that stimulate fibroblasts to make collagen. Treatments are quick, painless, and have no downtime. It is a great add-on after laser or microneedling treatments because it speeds up the healing process.

SaltFacial MD is a three-step treatment that renews, replenishes, and rejuvenates the skin. It is a hidden gem in the realm of anti-aging and acne treatments. 

Step 1: Renew

Using a proprietary system salt, a natural exfoliant, is used to remove dead skin cells. Salt also contains minerals that nourish the skin and has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. 

Step 2: Replenish

Replenishing products are applied to the skin with the assistance of ultrasound. With ultrasound assistance products can reach twice as deep. 

Step 3: Rejuvenate

The final step is a medical-grade red light treatment for collagen stimulation or a blue light treatment for acne.
