FAQs
How does it work?
Also called cryolipolysis, CoolSculpting cools the tissue to a temperature that destroys fat cells but does not harm skin cells.
Am I a good candidate?
Most patients with localized pinchable fat are possible candidates for this procedure. We offer complimentary CoolSculpting consultations to determine if you are a candidate and the cost of the treatment.
The CoolSculpting procedure is not for everyone. You should not have the CoolSculpting procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. The CoolSculpting procedure is not a treatment for obesity.
How much does it cost?
Cost varies by patient and is dependent on the number of areas treated and the desired results. Sign up below to receive our monthly specials on your favorite treatments.
Does it hurt?
Most patients tolerate the procedure well. Patients initially report an intense cold that lasts just a few minutes. Once the intense cold sensation dissipates patients can comfortably watch a movie, do a bit of work, or take a nap.
What is the downtime?
There is no true downtime, but patients do report mild to moderate soreness in the treated area that may last for several days.
How many treatments will I need?
Most patients require two treatment sessions spaced four weeks apart but may require more depending on the starting point and treatment goals.
When will I see results?
You may start to see changes as quickly as three weeks after your treatment, but it may take up to six months to see final results.
How long do results last?
Results are permanent as long as there is no weight gain.
Are there any side effects?
During the procedure, you may experience deep pulling, tugging, pinching, numbness, or discomfort. Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary numbness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, and pain.
There have been reports of a rare side effect called paradoxical lipohypertrophy. This rare side effect is described as an increase in fatty tissue at the location of the previous treatment. Liposuction has been found to correct this side effect should it occur.
What to Expect
-
It is recommended to discontinue any over the counter medications that increase the risk of bruising. Click here for the full list.
-
Once the applicator is applied, most patients read, watch videos, work on their laptop, or even take a nap during their treatment.
-
Immediately after the applicator is removed the treated area will be massaged and the patient permitted to leave.

The Great Equalizer
CoolSculpting is an extremely versatile body-contouring procedure. The CoolSculpting treatment can be used to contour away excess fat in areas like the abdomen, flanks, bra bulge, inner thighs, saddle bags, love handles, banana roll, hips, upper arms, male breast (gynecomastia), neck, and double chin.
CoolSculpting is a safe and effective FDA-approved, non-invasive body contouring procedure designed to help reduce stubborn areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. It has gained popularity because, unlike liposuction, it requires no downtime. Dr. Noll, who eats healthy and exercises regularly, has been CoolSculpted in several areas like the abdomen and arms. She likes to call CoolSculpting the great equalizer because it allows her and other women who are postmenopausal and find themselves holding onto fat in the abdomen and flanks to really target those areas and remove them for good. Coolsculpting also helps men who can’t seem to lose that pinchable fat no matter how much time they spend on diet or exercise.

The Science Behind CoolSculpting
The concept behind CoolSculpting is quite fascinating. It utilizes a technique known as cryolipolysis. The term ‘cryo’ refers to freezing, and ‘lipolysis’ means the breakdown of fat cells. During the procedure, a specially designed cooling device is placed on the area of concern. This device gently and precisely targets the fat cells beneath the skin’s surface without damaging surrounding tissues or the skin itself.
When fat cells (adipocytes) are cooled to a target temperature, they undergo a process of cell death called apoptosis. This phenomenon was first identified in little children who would lose cheek fat after their cheeks would get very cold from eating popsicles. Scientists used this knowledge about fat cells to create Coolsculpting. Once destroyed, the fat cells are removed from the body like it removes other cells that naturally die. The areas with fewer fat cells appear flatter with less pinchable fat.
The great thing about CoolSculpting is that it’s non-surgical, which means no incisions, needles, or anesthesia are involved. Most patients find the procedure to be relatively comfortable and can often return to their normal activities immediately afterward. The treatment duration varies depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Since we have two devices we are able to treat up to four areas at a time, depending on the areas being treated.
It is essential to remember that CoolSculpting is not a weight loss method, but rather a body contouring procedure. It is best suited for people who are already close to their ideal body weight but have certain trouble spots they want to address.
For a more complete treatment, we also offer Cooltone, Exilis, and Virtue Body. Cooltone enhances Coolsculpting results by strengthening the muscles with FDA-cleared, non-invasive muscle stimulation. Cooltone can be used to treat the abdomen, buttocks, and legs. Exilis tightens the overlying skin using radiofrequency to stimulate collagen. Virtue Body combines microneedling and deep radiofrequency technology to stimulate collagen for tighter skin. Like CoolSculpting, there is no downtime with Cooltone, Exilis, or Virture RF.
