Eye Rejuvenation

Eye rejuvenation is best started early. It can be as simple as treating the eye area with a hydrating or anti-aging product. When a patient is ready to start procedures, Dr. Noll typically recommends Botox, but Botox is not the only option. We also offer microneedling with radiofrequency (Virtue RF), radiofrequency with ultrasound (Exilis Ultra),  non-ablative lasers for collagen stimulation (Resurfx), and ablative lasers for resurfacing and tightening (TRL).

The skin around their eyes is very thin and therefore quick to wrinkle. By softening the contraction of the muscles around the eyes that cause the eyes to squint, it is possible to prevent the lines that develop around the eyes. It is also possible to address the heaviness of the upper eyelid by lifting the eyebrows with Botox.

As we age the face loses volume. This is also true for the eye area. When the eyes lose volume patients start to see a shadow under the eyes. Some patients describe these as “eye bags.” Dermal fillers can improve the appearance of the eye bags by filling and lifting the skin under the eyes in the tear trough area. Lifting the skin in the tear trough softens the shadow under the eyes and makes the “eye bag” less apparent. Our VirtueRF Platform is the only microneedling RF platform available. It combines three great treatments into one amazing treatment for optimal collagen stimulation. There are two treatment options for the eye area SMART RF AND EXACT RF.

The SMART RF has 36-gold tipped needles, radiofrequency, and red or blue light. The SMART RF is indicated for the face, neck, and eyes. If eye bags or loose skin are present, the EXACT RF handpiece is recommended for a stronger more precise treatment. 

Patients tolerate the procedure well after topical numbing for the SMART RF. For eye treatments with the EXACT RF, an injection anesthetic is used for added comfort. Downtime for the EXACT RF treatments is 1-2 weeks of possible swelling, redness,  and tiny dots.  

For more enhanced results, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can be applied to the treated area after microneedling RF. PRP is isolated from the patient’s blood, which is drawn at the time of treatment. The PRP contains growth factors that allow the skin to respond to the treatment faster and better.

If patients are looking for tightening, but are not comfortable with microneedling, we have a more comfortable option called Exilis Ultra. Exilis Ultra is a biostimulation treatment that uses radiofrequency and ultrasound to stimulate the production of collagen. Together these two energies gently heat the skin to the temperature (41-43° Celsius) needed to stimulate the formation of new collagen. This treatment is very tolerable and does not require numbing. It has been described as feeling like a hot stone massage. There is no downtime and patients can return to normal activity immediately after treatment. 6 treatments are recommended at 1-2 week intervals. Patients must come well-hydrated.

ResurFX is a non-ablative collagen-stimulating treatment which means it does not injure the top of the skin but targets the tissue just under the surface. The ResurFX is great for the eye area because it has an adjustable spot size that allows it to safely and accurately treat the small eyelid area. It is ideal for those early fine lines that start to develop around the eyes and mouth and for collagen stimulation to slow the aging process.  It does require topical numbing. Patients report  2-5 days of redness and possibly swelling. Multiple treatments may be needed, depending on skin condition and treatment goals.

TRL is the most aggressive laser treatment performed in the office. It functions similarly to a CO2 laser. It is great for deep wrinkles around the eyes. It can remove years of wrinkles and its results are dramatic. It requires local anesthetic injections for numbing and 2 weeks of intense recovery. In plastic surgery offices, this treatment is often paired with facelifts because of the extensive recovery period. A driver would be needed after the treatment.

Latisse is an FDA-approved prescription eyelash growth serum. It is mentioned here because longer, thicker, fuller eyelashes are very rejuvenating.  Latisse is bimatoprost, While the mechanism of action of Latisse is not fully understood, it is believed to increase the length of time in the growth phase and to increase the number of hair follicles in the growth phase. It is applied once a day. Results may be seen as early as 1 month. Full results are usually seen after 16 weeks.
