Laser Hair Removal
Conveniently located to serve Davis
Laser hair removal permanently reduces unwanted hair so you do not have to worry about pain from waxing, the hassle of regrowth, or discomfort from ingrown hairs. Laser hair removal is the process of removing unwanted hairby means of exposure to pulses of laser light that destroy the hair follicle.
At Davis Dermatology, we use the cutting-edge LightSheer Quattro laser for hair removal. Its diode laser technology emits a laser pulse that targets hair follicles without damaging the skin. It offers 805nm and 1060nm wavelengths for precise calibration. Patient comfort and safety are ensured through its continuous cooling mechanism.
Individual results may vary.
Laser hair removal is the most popular laser treatment in the United States. Multiple sessions are necessary to eliminate all the hairs as they cycle through their individual growth cycles. Since white hair has no pigment to absorb the light energy from the laser, it won’t eliminate white hairs.
Which Areas Can Be Treated with Laser Hair Removal?
This hair-reduction option is extremely versatile, and because of this, it can be used to treat areas large and small. Laser hair removal works on almost all areas of the body, including the upper lip, chin, arms, armpits, chest, back, bikini, and legs.
The laser treatment’s precision allows it to target small areas like the upper lip and then treat them in a matter of minutes. Larger areas like the back take longer to treat.
Reasons for Laser Hair Removal
Patients seek laser hair removal for a number of reasons:
- Cosmetic, permanent hair removal
- Ingrown hairs, folliculitis
- Not for white hair
- Pretreatment protocol
– No tanning 4 weeks prior – No electrolysis 4 weeks prior – No waxing 4 weeks prior – No Retin A, or AHA use 3 days prior – Shave treatment area day before or day of treatment – No Accutane use 6 months prior
- Used mainly on face, underarms, bikini, also legs, arms, back, buttocks, abdomen, breasts
- Average number of sessions needed and recommended 8-12
Though laser hair removal is ideal for people with light skin and dark hair, the LightSheer Quattro laser is also quite safe for all skin tones. It’s easier for the laser to target dark hair’s pigment, but this procedure can also target blond hair effectively. This sets it apart from many other types of hair-removal lasers.
Your Laser Hair Removal Consultation
During the consultation, Dr. Noll will ask about your medical history and any skin issues, and the staff will take photos of the targeted areas for assessment purposes.
Dr. Noll will talk about the benefits, potential complications, and realistic expectations of laser hair removal. She will discuss your hair removal options, related costs, preparation steps, and aftercare with you.
Before the procedure, hairs in the target area will be trimmed until they’re only a few millimeters off the skin surface, usually followed by the application of numbing cream. You will wear goggles for eye protection.
After 30 minutes, the LightSheer Quattro handpiece will be pressed to the skin of the treatment regions. These regions will be evenly treated.
The Recovery Process
The targeted areas might become slightly swollen or red a few hours after the procedure. Cool them down with ice as recommended. Between sessions, you should wear SPF30 sunscreen and stay away from sunlight and tanning beds.
