Botox is a toxin that is produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. When administered in minuscule doses, the toxin can relieve stress of the muscles by blocking its receptors. Botox injections were approved as a cosmetic procedure by the FDA in 2002.

These injections are also used as treatments for muscular issues such as migraines and spasms. In 2017, botulinum toxin was marked as the top non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the US.

When you are injected with Botox, the muscles in your face get temporarily paralyzed or weakened. As a result, these muscles do not move for some time. This facial paralysis causes you to look younger. Different muscles will have separate reactions to this injection. Typically, the results from Botox last anywhere from three to 12 months.
