What types of treatment do you offer?

We offer three skin tightening treatments in Sacramento at Davis Dermatology: Exilis Ultra, Sofwave, and Virtue Deep RF.

How Does it Work?

Exilis Ultra uses radiofrequency to heat the skin to the temperature clinically proven to stimulate new collagen. This newly stimulated collagen is seen clinically as tighter skin with an improved texture. Sofwave uses Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam Technology to deliver heat precisely to the mid-dermis, where collagen remodeling occurs. This triggers a natural wound-healing response, stimulating new collagen production and tightening the skin.

The upper layers of skin remain intact, so there’s no downtime. Virtue Deep RF combines radiofrequency with microneedling and red light. Microneedles create microchannels in the skin, which promote collagen production, while radiofrequency heats the skin to enhance collagen production. Finally, red light is emitted to increase microvasculature and stimulate even more collagen.

Am I a good candidate?

Most patients would benefit from Exilis or Virtue RF treatments, as long as no pacemaker or metal is near the treated area. Tooth fillings are okay. They are not recommended in pregnant or nursing patients.

The ideal candidate for these treatments is patients whose treatment goals do not require surgery. As a general rule, when a patient uses their hands to pull the skin back to demonstrate a desired result, then surgery is usually required.

What to Expect

Before

Patients should arrive at their appointments well hydrated with clean, dry skin. No lotions, skincare products, or sunscreen on the treatment area. Starting over-the-counter collagen peptides is recommended.

During

During an Exilis treatment, the patient will experience a warm sensation like a hot stone massage. During a VirtueRF treatment, patients will either arrive pre-numbed or numbed in-office with topical numbing cream. Patients may experience mild discomfort from the microneedles and heat from the radiofrequency.

After

The treated area may be slightly pink for several minutes immediately after the treatment, but will return to normal after a few minutes. Normal activity may be resumed immediately.

A Closer Look at the Treatments Radiofrequency (EXILIS ULTRA)

Exilis Ultra combines radiofrequency and ultrasound to effectively and comfortably heat the skin to the optimal temperature that stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin. Ultrasound enhances the treatment area and depth of penetration, ensuring maximum results. The combined technology offered by Exilis Ultra provides improved delivery of energy and produces better results than those seen with radiofrequency alone. As a side note, patients often ask about over-the-counter radiofrequency devices seen on social media and readily available.

Most of these devices are bipolar devices that do not penetrate as deeply as monopolar devices. They are also unlikely to emit enough energy for true collagen stimulation, as studies show that collagen stimulation occurs when the tissue is heated to 42-44°C or 107.6-111.7°F. While over-the-counter devices are not as effective as medical-grade devices, they may offer very short-term results that patients may find appealing.

Exilis ranges from $250-$800 per treatment.
